Neills Hill Ballyhackamore

April 28, 2012 | Comments (1)

Fomerly Aldens, Neills Hill is the new revamped and very chic looking brasserie in Ballyhackamore. Most people who love their food will be familiar with Aldens – a name  synonymous with fine dining in Belfast.  Aldens has been long established as one of the finest restaurants in Northern Ireland, but now the owners are aiming to embrace the new wave of  reasonably priced eating establishments which have been springing up, particularly in the ‘cool’ Ballyhackamore area.

Neills Hill Brasserie Ballyhackamore

Neills Hill has only recently been launched (April) and looks set to capture the imagination of  Ballyhackamores discerning diners. An exciting, but more affordable, new menu has been created; which aims to appeal to those of us who like fine food, but at a reasonable price. With a comfortable and more informal ambience, it seems poised to attract a host of new customers, perhaps unfamiliar with Aldens previous fine dining experience.

Ace Restaurant Belmont Road

April 20, 2012 | Comments (0)

A new development sees the old Gourmet Burger Bar on the Belmont Road now become ACE restaurant. Gourmet Burger bar was of course, under the same ownership as Il Pirata in Ballyhackamore, so it seems that with Il Pirata a resounding success, it follows that the same formula will attract new diners to Ace on the Belmont Road . The old signage has been removed and Ace is now basically a black exterior with no obvious signage -  similar of course to Il Pirata.

Some refurbishment has taken place inside the restaurant with a lean towards the same ‘shabby chic’ style of Il Pirata. Recognisable as the old Gourmet Burger Bar interior, but with a new cool decor.

The menu has changed considerably, out goes the predominantly burger orientated menu and in its place, a menu, again similar in parts to Il Pirata.  All day brunch, looks very appetising -  with a choice of Porridge, Honey and roast banana or pancakes with crispy bacon and maple syrup.  The ‘small plates’ , popular at Il Pirata, have also been introduced at Ace.

Burgers and sandwiches are still on the menu, with a lesser choice of burgers, but a clever new addition of ‘dogs and sliders’  Dogs of course, being a very popular american food.  There is an exciting range of yumpy looking ‘dog meals’.

All in all, an extensive and innovative menu and definitely one for you to try at the next opportunity!

Good Fortune Ballyhackamore

March 31, 2012 | Comments (0)

Not the ‘grandest’ Restaurant in Ballyhackamore, but nevertheless, very popular, is the Good Fortune Chinese restaurant. Open now well over 10 years, its a busy little restaurant, situated in Library Court (in the same block as ballyhack Library) .  It’s a small, understated little eatery, but still draws its regular diners, particularly at weekends, when it can become very busy.

It’s not the largest inside and the tables may be a little close together for some peoples liking, but it still has a warm ambience of its own.  Serving all the ever popular chinese  dishes and making a pretty good job of it;  indeed their honey chilli chicken comes highly recommended.

Another big attraction for its customers is that it is a ‘bring your own’ restaurant. So straight away you will enjoy savings on your alcoholic drinks while there. Ballyhackamore is of course, not short of places to buy booze, with the nearest off licence only a short walk away.

The Good Fortune enjoys the ‘overspill’ from its bigger neighbour across the road -  the Mandarin city. So many people who can’t get into the Mandarin will often  just walk across to the Good Fortune.  However, its still a busy place and if you haven’t booked at the weekend, chances are you won’t get a table . Som we recommend you book in advance.
